The Whisker Gift

Each of us at Whisker Gifters recognizes how truly lucky we are to have homes, food, health care and toys.  The Whisker Gift is a charitable donation we make to organizations that make a difference in our communities by helping those in need.

Beginning in 2008, Cataco, Inc., the parent company of Whisker Gifters, will award a Whisker Gift of $500 to each of two organizations.  The first will be awarded in July, the second in December.  Both of the 2008 donations will be made to organizations of our choosing.  Future donations will be made to organizations nominated by visitors to our site, provided we receive eligible nominations.

Eligibility Requirements

The Whisker Gift is intended to support local shelters and rescue groups, organizations that train therapy, service and search-and-rescue animals, and national organizations such as the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the Humane Society of the United States and the American Red Cross.  The organization must be a public charity granted tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code.  In addition, the organization must be in compliance with all state and federal tax laws and must not be in violation of any state or federal charitable solicitation laws at the time of nomination.

Selection of Recipients

Representatives of Cataco will review all nominations thoroughly.  We will contact the nominator and a representative of the organization to verify that the information supplied is current and to make sure the organization meets our requirements.  Recipients are chosen based on a number of criteria including but not limited to financial need, demonstration of commitment to providing a service to the community and the eloquence with which the essay portion of the nomination is written.

Due to the increasing number of organizations deserving of financial help, we must limit to one the number of donations each organization may receive.

With each awarded Whisker Gift we send a letter confirming the selection of the organization and post that letter on this site.  A contact name and phone number for the organization are also made available.
